Trades Assistant volunteers work with a Trades Volunteer, side by side with young people in small groups to disciple through the trades, encourage hope and purpose, and walk and learn by living daily life together. The trades volunteer works towards these goals while creating a safe environment.
1. Trades Assistant volunteers will disciple young people through the trades, which requires them to respect the young people, have a consistent testimony (character, 1 Timothy 3:2), and personal spiritual growth. Trades Assistant will demonstrate the fruits of the spirit, and seek ways to help others. He/she is committed prayer for ministry, students and leaders. Trades Assistant volunteer must be 18 years old to work with youth. Trades Assistant volunteer must be older then the young adults they work with.
2. The Trades Assistant person encourages hope and purpose, which is based on showing the individual who they are in Christ, and what they can do with what God has given them. This teaches them the reason behind the activity and their intrinsic value. He/She is committed to intentionally building relationships with young people in the shop and bringing young people closer to Christ.
3. The Trades Assistant volunteer will walk along side and teach the young person in both life and trade. The Trades Assistant are not the main trades teacher but will be working with an experienced trades person. Trades Assistant will be working with a Trades Volunteer and approximately 2-3 young people at a time. To walk with the young people, the Trades Assistant volunteer must be willing to be humble and vulnerable, living life on life with the student. They will build one-on-one relationships by working together and meeting together occasionally outside of OK. He/She is committed to consistent volunteer time in order to develop meaningful relationships.
4. The Trades Assistant will work to create a safe environment, spiritually, emotionally and physically. Volunteers must complete all mandatory safety trainings, and encourage young people to work safely. He/She will attend volunteer trainings and debriefings. Volunteers will work to create a trusting, judgement free, team environment. All meetings with youth outside of Organized Kaos are to take place in highly visible and highly trafficked areas (ex. coffee shops).
